A condition characterized by abnormal heart rhythm. This may result in either too fast or slow heart beat.

- Can last several years or be lifelong
- Common for ages 60 and older
- Family history may increase likelihood
- Urgent medical attention recommended in severe cases
Symptoms
Arrhythmia may not cause any noticeable symptoms and could be diagnosed during routine examinations. Some of the commonly noted symptoms include:
- Fluttering in the chest
- Racing heartbeat
- Slow heartbeat
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Dizziness
- Sweating
- Fainting or syncope
Complications
Complications may include:
- Stroke resulting from blocked or reduced blood flow to the brain
- Heart failure
- Cardiac arrest, which is a medical emergency
