Three habits to build into your routine

01

Know your blood pressure

Your numbers show how hard your heart is working. Checking them at home gives you and your cardiologist a clearer picture than a single reading at the clinic.

Tip: Learn how to take your blood pressure, and keep a written record of every result.

02

Give recovery time

Healing after a heart attack is not something to rush. Your body is repairing itself, and pushing too hard too soon can set you back.

Tip: Expect recovery to take four to eight weeks, and get plenty of rest.

03

Keep blood sugar in check

Diabetes and heart disease often go hand in hand. High blood sugar can strain your heart and blood vessels over time.

Tip: If you are diabetic, controlling your blood sugar is very important to prevent further complications.

Support at home

Bring your family in

Your heart health is not a journey you have to take alone. When the people closest to you understand your condition, they can encourage your habits and notice when something feels wrong.

Ask them to learn CPR

In a cardiac emergency, every minute counts. Ask your family to learn CPR, so someone beside you knows exactly what to do until medical help arrives.
